Music Theory?
Let midiOS™ do the thinking.
Each color bank represents a mode of the major scale.
You can arrange your scales in sequential modes or lock everything to a fixed tonal center.
A fixed tonal center gives you instant access to beautiful modal-interchange chords without needing to understand the theory behind them.
Tap the logo icon to open your global options.
From there, choose your scale type and switch between continuous or fixed tonal center mode.
Continuous
The scale moves through the modes in order, just like walking up the church modes on a piano.
Fixed Tonal Center
All modes are expressed relative to one root, giving you dramatic color changes while staying anchored to one key.

Harmony in continuous or voice-leading mode.
Continuous mode plays chords the way a beginner pianist might: simple triads that move up and down the keyboard in parallel. It’s clean, predictable, and great for quickly sketching harmony.
Voice-leading mode behaves like an experienced player who keeps each note as close as possible to the next. midiOS rewrites the chord shapes in real time based on the direction you move, creating smooth, musical transitions and new harmonic colors you wouldn’t normally stumble into.
Double-tap the logo to switch between modes.
When the edit button glows red, you’re in voice-leading mode.

Secondary Dominant Chords
If you press and hold one chord pad, then press and hold a second chord pad, midiOS™ will play the connecting dominant chord that leads into the second pad. This is called a secondary dominant.

Example:
Hold the D chord (Pad 1), then press and hold the Em chord (Pad 2).
midiOS™ will automatically play B7, the dominant chord that resolves to Em.
The B7 will continue until you release either pad.
-
If you release D first: the B7 resolves naturally into Em, since you’re still holding Pad 2.
-
If you release Em first: the app returns to D major, because you’re still holding Pad 1.
This lets you transition smoothly between chords using real harmonic movement—no theory knowledge required.
Ex: D major -> B7 -> E min -> C#7 - F# min
